Substance Abuse Education

This page is designed to aid parents of our community in the education on fentanyl, a synthetic opioid typically used to treat chronic pain. Fentanyl is similar to Morphine, but is about 100 times more potent. Illicit fentanyl is manufactured in foreign labs and smuggled into the United States and is distributed across the country being sold on the illegal drug market.

Fentanyl is mixed with other illicit drugs which increases the potency of the drug and making it more lethal. Once mixed it can be sold as a powder, nasal spray, or in pill format. With no oversight of the quality control, these counterfeit pills often contain a lethal dose of the drug. This can be mixed with heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine which increases the risk of fatal interaction.

It is possible for someone to ingest a pill without knowing if it contains fentanyl. Synthetic opioids like fentanyl are the primary cause of drug overdose across the United States. This page is designed to help parents become aware of the ways kids are obtaining this drug, how to protect them from Online Drug Dealers, and to help with ways to educate your children of the dangers of the drug.
