City Hall

  • Code Enforcement Officer  -  City of Dalhart

    Position responsible for assisting in the administration and enforcement of the property maintenance code, and other duties as assigned to include but not limited to routine inspection of sites to enforce ordinances concerning, high grass, weeds, junk and/or abandoned vehicles, dangerous buildings, and signs.

    Duties:

    • Conduct research using the computer, prepare and write departmental reports, correspondence, and legal documents, such as liens, release of liens and demolition orders.
    • Receive complaints of violations of city codes and ordinances for residential, commercial and industrial property in an assigned geographic area.
    • Review case files, zoning, tract maps and other documentation relating to property involved in a complaint.
    • Conduct interviews, field investigations and site surveillance.
    • Determine compliance requirements.
    • Explain violations and alternative mitigation measures.
    • Issue Warning Notices and Notices to Appear.
    • Coordinate enforcement activities with other agencies.
    • Assist processing of abatement orders.
    • May review planning applications for enforceability of variances and use permit requests.
    • Prepare case information and present evidence at appeal hearings and other legal proceedings.
    • Answer citizens' inquiries regarding ordinance compliance.

    • Proficient in using Microsoft applications (including Word, Excel), other software packages as needed for data management and email applications.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.  Code enforcement officer will work indoors and outdoors as the position requires.

    Requirements:

    • Certified as a Code Enforcement Officer issued by the Texas Department of Health; or the ability to obtain such certification within six (1) year of employment.
    • Graduation from High School or equivalent. 
    • Must have a valid Drivers License and good driving background
    • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. 
    • Able to pass a Background Test

Public Works Openings

  • Fleet Servicemen

    City of Dalhart Texas

    Under supervision, this position performs work related to lubrication, fuel, flat repairs and maintenance, on automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment. Under supervision of Fleet supervisor, and with hands on training, performs skilled work in the repair and maintenance of all City owned equipment. In some cases may have to work outside the shop to make repairs and in inclement weather at times.  

    Job Duties:

    • Repairs and keeps records on automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, and other motor driven vehicles with fuel, oil, and lubricants, according to service schedule.
    • Issues and records service tickets.
    • Performs vehicle inspections for city vehicles once they are qualified. 
    • Balances tires.
    • Makes minor repairs and reports major repairs needed, defective parts, of operation on equipment serviced, to his Supervisor.
    • Operates a mobile service unit.
    • Sweeps and cleans garage, removes snow if needed.
    • Breaks down and repairs tires.
    • Trains to overhaul and repair, gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, drive units, fuel systems, front ends, brakes, suspension systems, chassis, cooling systems, instruments, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, pollution control devices, and heating and air conditioning systems.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by department Supervisor.
    • Implements and maintains Fleet work orders and data entry within departments computer Fleet tracking system.
    • Make equipment or part runs to part stores in or out of city limits at approval of supervisor.

    Skills:

    Some computer skills are a plus but not required but will need to learn at direction of supervisor.  Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; keep accurate records; use a variety of tools and equipment; perform heavy manual labor; perform unskilled and semi-skilled task. Communicate effectively with a variety of personnel and establish/maintain effective working relationships; apply policies and procedures; work independently; work safely.

    Requirements:

    • Graduation from High School or equivalent. 
    • Must be able to obtain a State inspection License
    • Must have a valid Drivers License. (Class A or B is a plus) may be asked to obtain A or B 
    • Experience in Auto mechanics or Servicing vehicles is recommended before applying.
    • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

  • Street Department Servicemen

    City of Dalhart Texas

    Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and servicing of City streets, traffic systems, signs, sidewalks, storm drains, and equipment; performs related duties as required.

    Job Duties:

    • Sets, forms, pours, and finishes concrete to repair curbs, gutters, driveways, and sidewalks; performs street repairs and patching; lays asphalt; clears roadside and other City properties by cutting brush, raking and hoeing; sets up traffic safety devices and barricades as necessary.
    • Removes, replaces, and repairs street signs, performs minor traffic striping on streets, crosswalks, and curbs; manufacture signs.
    • Answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action such as placing barricades, removing fallen trees and limbs, replacing street signs and emergency patching of streets.
    • Operates pickup and dump trucks, tractors, and other maintenance equipment; performs routine maintenance on equipment.  Including hand tools and power tools.
    • May perform routine building maintenance tasks.
    • Performs any other tasks designated by his/her supervisor to help other departments if needed.

    Skills:

    Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; keep accurate records; use a variety of tools and equipment; perform heavy manual labor; perform unskilled and semi-skilled task in a variety of construction and maintenance activities; operate vehicles, equipment and stationary mechanical equipment; respond to emergency and problem situations in an effective manner; communicate effectively with a variety of personnel and establish/maintain effective working relationships; apply policies and procedures; work independently; work safely.

  • Wastewater Plant Operator / Water Department

    Perform duties of a Water and/or Wastewater Operator, will be required to operate various City equipment, operate, maintain water and wastewater systems, maintain streets and perform various duties as required,.

    JOB DUTIES:

    •  Make water service connections
    •  Repair water leaks
    •  Read water meters and record data
    •  Shut off and turn on water meters
    •  Operate water system and record data
    •  Perform general maintenance on water system

    •  Operate backhoe proficiently

Police Dept Openings

  • Police Officer

    City of Dalhart

    The City of Dalhart, Texas is Accepting applications for a full-time TCOLE Certified Peace Officer.

    Depending upon experience, officers will be assigned to FTO training 12 to 16 weeks in length.  Officers work 12 hour shifts and have a every other weekend off.  Assigned duties will include answering calls for service, cash investigations, traffic enforcement, narcotics investigations and assisting the Criminal Investigation Division when needed.

    Every three months officers rotate to another shift, be it days or nights.  Officers will work in varying climates the the Panhandle of Texas offers.  Temperatures in the winter months can drop into the single digits and in the summer months temperatures can reach above 100 dgrs.
