City Breaks Ground on New Emergency Response Center

ERC Groundbreaking

October 13, 2023- The City of Dalhart broke ground this week on the new Emergency Response Center at 609 Liberal Street. Dalhart City Councilmembers joined leadership from the Dalhart Police Department and Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department, along with contractors from Plains Builders on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, for an official groundbreaking ceremony on the long-awaited project.  Interior demolition and construction have now started on the building, which formerly housed the Shopko Hometown retailer, to renovate the space for the City’s first responders. Upon completion of the project, the building will house the Dalhart Police Department, Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department, and local EMS services under one roof. This new location with highway frontage will allow for each of the agencies to better respond to emergencies throughout the community and will increase collaborative response efforts.
“We are thrilled to finally put shovels in the ground on this project. Dalhart is a community that cares greatly about its first responders, is thankful for the work they do, and look forward to improving their work however we can. I think this new facility will provide each of these three agencies with what they need to better protect our community,” said Mayor Justin Moore
“The new Emergency Response Center is not only going to be a great benefit to the personnel with each of these departments, but it will also benefit the residents of Dalhart and the surrounding community we serve,” said Dalhart Fire Chief, Mario Garcia.
The three agencies will continue to be housed in their respective buildings, near downtown Dalhart, until construction is finished on the new facility. The project is expected to be completed by January 2025.
